Lego League Prepares for Season
ICS students are preparing for the 2008-2009 FIRST Lego League Competition. FIRST - For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.
There have been several fundraising events for the team over the past few months. You can view photos from the ice cream social and of the Lego League Team in the photo gallery.
Lego League was founded in 1998 to inspire young peoples participation in science and technology.
Each annual Challenge has two parts, the Project and the Robot Game. Working in teams of up to 10 kids and guided by at least one adult coach, team members have about 10 weeks to:
Build an autonomous robot that will, in 2 minutes and 30 seconds, complete pre-designed missions
Analyze, research, and invent a solution for a given assignment
Create a clever presentation about their solution to perform in front of a panel of judges
You can learn more by visiting the Lego League website.

As a gift to Immaculate Conception School, employees of the Dresser-Rand plant in Wellsville donated a Coppus (misting) Fan before the start of the school's 3 on 3 basketball tournament on June 21, 2008. The gift was given in memory of Jim Potter and Terry Harris, original members of the cell that make the fan at Dresser-Rand.
The fan blows air and a cool water mist in order to reduce the skin temperature.

ICS Awarded LCD Projectors & Training
Immaculate Conception School has made a concerted effort to implement the use of technology at all grade levels. The Cattaraugus/Allegany Teacher Center made it happen by awarding ICS five LCD projectors and the necessary training to ensure that the faculty could use the projectors effectively.
Several staff members completed the Learning Web-Literacy courses sponsored by the Teacher Center. The information gleaned through the course work and the availability of the LCD projectors have been used to enhance classroom presentations, research projects, and professional development.
